Virtual Backgrounds

The Virtual Background feature allows you to display an image or video as your background during a Zoom Meeting. This feature works best with a green screen and uniform lighting, to allow Zoom to detect the difference between you and your background. You can upload your own images or videos as a virtual background.

How to enable Virtual Backgrounds

  1. Sign in to your Columbia Zoom account with this link here: Columbia Zoom Sign-in
    1. If you are using a Mailman Lecture account, sign in with this link here: Mailman lecture Sign-in
  2. Once you are signed in click on "Settings" tab on your left hand side.
  3. Scroll down to the "Virtual background" feature and enable.

    1. You also have the option to allow videos for virtual backgrounds, to do so just enable that feature.


How to use Virtual Backgrounds

  1. Once you join a call, click on the up arrow button located in the "Start Video" button.
  2. Now click on "Video Settings"
  3. Now click on "Background & Filters" button.
  4. You may now select the options Zoom has provided.
    1. To use your own Virtual backgrounds, click on the button located on the right hand side. You have the option of choosing a photo or a video.
  5. If you have a green screen, please enable that option.
  6. Now exit your settings and you should be all set!
