Executive Summary

The purpose of this document is to provide the full details of the technical solution to be used for the build of the Slate + Academics solution. Everything that is needed by the developer(s) to produce the required data model, forms and workflows will be included in this specification.

Technical Components

The following sections will detail the technical components within each functional area that are required to successfully implement this project.

Data Requirements

Purpose

Define any integrations or data that must be provided to deliver the solution.

  • Faculty Information Survey
    • Create the following person-scoped fields:
      • Reported primary department - a select menu that includes the programs prompts. This is for faculty members who do not have an SPS appointment but teach SPS courses.
      • Reported highest degree obtained, with the following prompts:
        • Bachelors
        • Masters
        • Doctoral
        • Juris Doctor
        • M.D.
        • Other
      • Reported other Level of Degree - a textbox for if their highest degree is not on the list above.
      • Reported highest Degree Institution - textbox.
      • Reported highest Degree Terminal - a yes/no bit field to see if their highest degree obtained is a terminal degree in their field.
      • Reported number of Columbia University teaching years, with the following prompts:
        • Less than 1
        • 1 to 2
        • 3 to 5
        • 6 to 10
        • 11 to 19
        • 20+
      • Reported number of Non-Columbia graduate level teaching years (with the same prompts as above)
      • Reported number of professional experience years (with the same prompts as above)
      • Reported current/most recent job level, with the following prompts:
        • Internship
        • Entry Level
        • Associate
        • Mid-Senior Level
        • Director
        • Executive
        • (not applicable)
      • Reported current/most recent place of employment - textbox
      • Reported current/most recent employment sector, with the following prompts:
        • Analytics
        • Arts
        • Construction
        • Consulting
        • Educaton
        • Energy
        • Environmental Services

Technical Design

Purpose

Define in detail the technical work that will need to be completed to deliver the final solution.

    • Faculty Information Survey
      • Any fields for which PAC is the "single source of truth" should be read-only.
      • The primary program field should only display if it has a value.
      • If there is no primary program field, the reported primary program field should display.
      • In addition to the fields created above, there should be numerous form fields. These are form fields because they are based on activities over the past 1-2 years. So that if the faculty member takes the same survey next year, these fields will NOT be pre-populated.
        • How many awards/honors have you won in the past two years, with the following prompts:
          • 0
          • 1
          • 2
          • 3
          • 4
          • 5 or more
        • Number of peer reviewed journal articles published in the past year (with the same prompts as above)
        • Number of non-peer reviewed journal articles in the past year (with the same prompts as above)
        • Number of conference presentations in the past year (with the same prompts as above)
        • Number of books published in the past year (with the same prompts as above)
        • Number of book chapters published in the past year (with the same prompts as above)
        • Other activities - textbox.
      • Create the following replicate blocks with the fields listed below:
        • Awards and Honors
          • Award/Honor name - textbox
          • Awarding organization - textbox
          • Year awarded - select (2024/2023)
        • Journal Articles
          • Journal title - textbox
          • Article title - textbox
          • Published year - select (2024/2023)
        • Books
          • Book title - textbox
          • Article title - textbox
          • Published year - select (2024/2023)
        • Book Chapters
          • Book title - textbox
          • Chapter title - textbox
          • Published year - select (2024/2023)
    • Communications 
      • Create a confirmation email/screen, thanking the faculty member for completing the survey.
      • Create/send announcement and reminder emails to faculty members asking them to complete the form consistent with the messaging here:
    • Query
      • Create a query displaying the results of the survey.
