New CUIMC Password RequirementsÂ
Considering recent security threats across health care institutions, we all recognize the need to safeguard our organization’s sensitive data. To improve our security posture and make your accounts more resistant to brute-force attacks, we will implement a new requirement to use a 16-character password for medical center accounts. These accounts are used to access email, SharePoint, and unlock campus workstations, among other purposes. With this change, your CUIMC password will no longer expire, which will align us with NYP’s password policy.
Beginning April 15,2024 you will be required to implement the change within 30 days. The enforcement will vary based on different user groups, determined alphabetically by the first letter of your UNI. You will receive notifications before the beginning of your enforcement period.
Please note that UNI passwords used for Columbia University applications (e.g., My Columbia) are separate from your CUIMC password. Columbia may continue to require employees to change their UNI passwords at a set frequency.
