Methodology
ADM
CU has chosen TOGAF framework for implementation of Enterprise Architecture. TOGAF is one of the leading EA framework available from The Open Group.
The most important part of TOGAF framework is Architecture development method, also known as ADM. ADM is process for creating architecture for organizations/institutions.
Figure below shows the ADM process
Enterprise Continuum
Another important component of TOGAF is Enterprise Continuum. Enterprise Continuum provides method of classifying architecture and solution artifacts as they evolve from generic foundational architecture to Organizational-specific architectures. The process of creating a specific enterprise architecture, such as Columbia University's Enterprise Architecture, is moving from the generic to the specific. TOGAF's ADM provides a process for driving this movement from the generic to the specific.
Following are 4 areas in the Enterprise Continuum ( Architecture Continuum and Solution Continuum )
Foundation Architectures: These are architectural principles that can, theoretically, be used by any IT organization in the universe.
Common Systems Architectures: These are principles that one would expect to see in many—but, perhaps, not all—types of enterprises.
Industry Architectures: These are principles that are specific across many enterprises that are part of the same domain.
Organizational Architectures: These are the architectures that are specific to a given enterprise.
