Jamf Connect Guide
Objective:
Introduce customers to Jamf Connect and provide guidance on provisioning and deployment
Target Audience:
IT Professionals and their customers across the university
Prerequisites:
Network connection
macOS 15 or above
NO shutdown or restart between provisioning & deployment
Benefits:
Users can sign in from anywhere since it’s linked to our Microsoft Entra IDs (uni@adcu.columbia.edu)
One Mac computer can have multiple user profiles via having the users log into the computer via Microsoft login
Initial Log in page was changed, allowing users to connect to Wi-Fi before they log in
Jamf Connect integrates Microsoft Entra as our cloud identity provider for our managed
MacBooks. This integration allows for the creation of local accounts synced with the UNI
password during login, effectively replacing NoMad as NoMad is no longer maintained by the
vendor.

Provisioning Steps:
Install latest MacOS (version 15.0+) and provision with your standard build.
After the computer has been provisioned, it will be at the Microsoft Entra ID login screen.
Click on the icon to change to the Local User login screen and log in as administrator to complete your post-provisioning updates.
Once all post-provisioning steps are completed and the technician is ready to provide the laptop to the user, LOG OUT of the administrator account to return to the Microsoft Entra ID log in screen.
Technicians SHOULD NOT restart or shutdown the computer as the next time the computer is turned on, it will bring the computer to the Local Login screen and won’t allow you to change to the Microsoft Entra ID login screen. If this happens, the technician needs to log into the administrator account and then log out.
Close the lid or manually sleep the laptop and hand off the Mac computer to the user for onboarding .
Deployment Steps
Provide the computer to the user. The user should be at the Microsoft login screen.
User should log in with their uni@adcu.columbia.edu account.
If a user updates their UNI password, JamfConnect will detect the change and prompt the user to sync their password onto the computer. This process is similar to NoMad’s process where it will ask the user for the network password and then the local password (previous password).
Per EUC, this is only for provisioned devices on MacOS 15+
There is a way to migrate users on NoMad to JamfConnect via a job from Self Service (speak to EUC). The job will uninstall NoMad and then install JamfConnect. Once JamfConnect is installed, the screen will go black, and the user will be logged out and brought to the Microsoft Entra ID login screen. Once the user logs in there, the user profile will be synced with the UNI password. This will not affect the user’s data.
The computer must be connected to the internet for the Microsoft Entra ID screen to load properly.
